A shareholder since 1985, Mr. Doody's practice encompasses the representation of clients in both the private and public sectors. Mr. Doody is Martindale-Hubbell peer review rated (AV) and has been recognized as an elite lawyer in Florida by Florida Trend Magazine. Mr. Doody divides his time between the Fort Lauderdale and Delray Beach offices.
In his representation of clients in the private sector, Mr. Doody concentrates primarily on commercial real estate transactions and associated matters. He has extensive experience in interstate transactions acting as counsel for several REITS and recently has been engaged to participate in interstate Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities "CMBS" transactions. He presently represents numerous business entities seeking to acquire, sell, or refinance commercial real estate holdings in all parts of Florida. Mr. Doody also represents clients buying or selling residential properties. As an outgrowth of his expertise in real estate, he presently represents financial institutions relative to loan transactions. Other components of his practice include the representation of clients in matters of land use, civil litigation and landlord tenant disputes.
Mr. Doody's practice also encompasses the representation of clients in the public sector such as municipalities, community redevelopment agencies, housing authorities and a water control district. In his capacity either as a city attorney or general counsel, he has the responsibility of addressing and resolving all facets of legal issues attendant to the day-to-day operation of a municipality, community redevelopment agency or water control district. Furthermore, he has within the past two years successfully defended governmental clients in matters associated with constitutional issues and zoning issues in both Federal and Florida State Courts. In his capacity as City Attorney for Oakland Park, he has collaborated with planning consultants to help prepare municipal zoning ordinances creating mixed-use districts, one of which introduced the Green Building concept to a redevelopment area.
